About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join Submilli's R&D team and develop custom physical products.
The engineer will work closely with our design and software teams to transform complex 3D geometries into manufacturable prototypes and products, covering CAD design, tooling, 3D printing, manufacturing, testing, and iterative development.
The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design skills with practical workshop and prototyping experience and is comfortable solving real-world manufacturing problems.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and modify mechanical designs using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
Convert and repair STL/OBJ and other 3D meshes for manufacturing.
Design molds, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing aids.
Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for different product requirements.
Work with FDM and resin/SLA/MSLA/DLP 3D printing technologies.
Develop and optimize prototype manufacturing processes.
Build, inspect, measure, and test physical prototypes.
Troubleshoot issues such as dimensional inaccuracies, deformation, surface defects, warping, filling problems, and other manufacturing defects.
Perform iterative design → manufacture → test → redesign cycles.
Work with the software/3D-geometry team to translate manufacturing constraints into parameters and design rules for a parametric modeling system.
Help establish a repeatable workflow from digital 3D geometry to physical product.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Strong experience with 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
Practical experience with 3D printing and prototyping.
Experience with mold, tooling, or fixture design.
Good understanding of manufacturing processes and material behavior.
Strong hands-on problem-solving ability.
Ability to independently research and solve unfamiliar engineering/manufacturing problems.
Willingness to work directly with physical prototypes and workshop equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with one or more of the following is valuable:
Mold and tooling design
Injection molding or casting
Flexible, elastomeric, or polymer materials
SLA/MSLA/DLP/FDM 3D printing
STL/OBJ mesh processing
Reverse engineering and 3D scanning
Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and dimensional inspection
Finite element analysis (FEA)
Python / CAD automation
Medical, wearable, or custom-fit product development
What We Are Looking For
We are not looking for someone who only designs in CAD.
We are looking for an engineer who can take a complex 3D geometry, determine how it can actually be manufactured, design the necessary tooling, build a prototype, identify problems, improve the design, and repeat the process.
